Description
You are bidding on a vintage antique silk scarf. It has 2 hand sewn sides and 2 selvage sides. That's how they made most textiles in the 1950s and earlier, I have only seen a couple scarves made like this. The reason... because the looms were not very wide and everyone had to sew their own items in the 1930s and earlier, for the most part anyway. So, they would only sew the two sides. Lots of old tablecloths from the 1930s and earlier are made that way. It is hand dyed. The silk is exquisite, very different than luxury silk make today. Thick and elegant but the silk...oh I just love the feel of this scarf...so soft. It measures 37 x 38 inches. No flaws. Judging by the print, I would say it was made 1880 to 1910. I have been in the textile business for 25 years. Sometimes you have to go by the print...and the way it was made. So, my opinion would be closer to the 1880s or 1890s. It's beautiful....Spots: None (It has not been washed and comes from a smoke free office).
I have other scarves up for sale. Please see my other items!
