Untitled DocumentVictorian Antique Black Chantilly Bobbin Lace Weeping Willow Mantilla Mourning Shawl
This antique Victorian Civil War era black Chantilly bobbin lace weeping willow mantilla mourning shawl dates from the 1860s. It is handmade of a delicate sheer fine black net French Chantilly bobbin lace, with a unique weeping willow foliage design pattern outlined in cordonnet black threads with detailed shading effects, veined leaves and a beautiful decorative scalloped border edging. This magnificent mourning mantilla lace shawl has an intricately done design throughout and has been created into a large triangle shaped shawl style scarf wrap. The shawl measures 120 inches wide across the top and 56 inches long down the center to the point. It is in fair as-is fragile condition, needing some restoration repairs, with several frayed rips along the top border edging, a scattering of small frayed holes in areas (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of antique Victoriana mourning lace wearable art!
