CONFEDERATE EXEMPTION APPLICATION.The American Civil War was a war fought in the United States from 1861 to 1865, between the North and the South. Throughout the war the Southern states always faced shortages of men, supplies, and transportation. At the conclusion of the war, many historians estimate that eighty percent of Southern men of fighting age fought for the Confederacy; therefore, applications for exemption from Confederate military service are extremely rare and valuable for collectors.
