    Description

    1864 letter signed George B. Drake (1838-1921), a civil war brevet brigadier general.  He starte dthe war as 2nd lieutenant in the 12th Massachusetts; later in the 6th US infantry, where he served as assistant adjutant general, later serviging as crops staff and as department chief of staff for the Gulf (in which capacity this letter was written), with the rank of Lt. Col.  He received a brevet as brigadier general in 1865, later serving as a wool merchant.  Letter on department of the Gulf letterhead from Alexandria LA, granting permission to Brig. Gen. Cameron to have his muskets discharged, by order of General Banks.  Neat document.
